Back to all Newmarket takes home multiple awards at 2021 Australian Institute of Architects & Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Awards

Cbus Property’s Newmarket Randwick masterplan project in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs has been recognised with the esteemed Aaron Bolot Award for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing in the 2021 Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) NSW Architecture Awards, as well as three awards in the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) NSW Awards.

The receipt of these awards reinforces the tremendous work that has been done at Newmarket Residences (Stage 1) and Figtree Pocket (Stage 1A), architecturally designed by Bates Smart and Smart Design Studio respectively, with landscape architecture by Arcadia Landscape Architecture. Cbus Property congratulates all involved.

AIA | The Aaron Bolot Award for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing

The jury for the AIA said that Newmarket Randwick had been “exemplary in showing how we might live well in the city … Significantly, the project provides a public domain, including a central park that adapts existing structures, retail and urban design framework ahead of the later stages, adding amenity to the local area rather than focussing on privatised amenities and inaccessible courtyards”. The panel was particularly impressed with the ground-floor residences that “activate new public lanes introduced by the designers”.

AILA | The Award of Excellence for Play Spaces

The Sales Ring Playground at Newmarket Randwick received an Award of Excellence in the Play Spaces category, which is the highest level of award in the AILA. The judging panel said the playground “exemplifies innovative play design and adaptive reuse”, while delivering interesting elements and environmental considerations. “The embedded history of the site is central to the play experience, providing a unique and memorable space,” the jury cited. “The playground demonstrates how effective play spaces can provide a long-term, positive economic benefit to a broader community and act as a village heart in an urban setting.”

AILA | The Landscape Architecture Award for Civic Landscape

The Newmarket Dining retail and dining piazza received a Landscape Architecture Award for Civic Landscape. The jury commended Arcadia Landscape Architecture and Bates Smart for creating a bustling community hub for the Newmarket Randwick masterplan, which has become a unique character-filled destination for residents of and visitors to Randwick alike.

AILA | The Landscape Architecture Award for Parks & Open Space

Inglis Park at Newmarket Randwick received a Landscape Architecture Award for Parks & Open Space. The judges applauded Inglis Park for its skilful management of public and private spaces to integrate the new development within the established Newmarket Randwick residential community, saying the “open space carefully caters to many, while maintaining a calm and restorative landscape character”.

The second stage of Newmarket Randwick, Young & Fennelly, is now selling off the plan, while limited completed residences remain for sale at Figtree Pocket.
