Commencement of Stage 1 Construction

Today, Thursday March 1st 2018, Cbus Property held the official Sod Turning Ceremony to mark the commencement of construction for it master-plan development, Newmarket Randwick.

As one of Australia’s most awarded and trusted national developers, Cbus Property successfully launched the first stage of Newmarket’s Fig Tree Pocket to the market in late 2017, receiving an overwhelming response from locals within the Randwick community. Fig Tree Pocket was released earlier than planned as a result of the outstanding sales success of the first stage of the project, Newmarket Residences.

Today marks an exciting milestone, not only for the development’s progress but also for the historically renowned Inglis Newmarket site.

Cbus Property CEO Adrian Pozzo said, “Today marks a long-awaited achievement for both the development team and for excited purchasers of Newmarket.”

“We’re thrilled to bring to life this incredible site which holds so much history and heritage. We’re confident that with Ganellen on board as builder contractor, we will deliver a world-class development, which benefits residents and the local community,” said Mr. Pozzo.

Commercial Director of Ganellen Christopher Ahern expressed his enthusiasm to start construction on the landmark project.

“We’ve been looking to work with Cbus Property for a very long time and, having the opportunity to work on Newmarket Randwick, is something our team values greatly. Many of the Ganellen team have grown up in the area and now call this place home - so we’re building in our own backyard.

“Like Cbus Property, we strive for high quality projects and Newmarket will be nothing less,” said Mr. Ahern.

Designed in collaboration with acclaimed architects, SJB, Smart Design Studio, Bates Smart, Neeson Murcutt and Arcadia Landscape Architecture, Newmarket’s master plan is set to deliver a residential and commercial precinct unlike anything Randwick has seen before.

Established in the early 1860s, Newmarket has been a significant part of Randwick’s racing heritage since its inception.  The Big Stable was built circa 1887 on the peaceful southern boundary of Figtree Pocket where it has housed thousands of racehorses over the last 130 years.  Now it begins a new chapter as part of an exquisite precinct in Randwick’s most desirable new neighbourhood. The Stable will be dedicated to Council and available to the community for public use and boasts 1500 sqm in open space that works in harmony with the site’s heritage and the new apartment buildings.

Newmarket delivers a real sense of tranquillity and connection to history, perfectly positioned between the city and the beach. It’s just 6km from Sydney’s CBD – a short ride via the new Light Rail that is less than 800m from the project, while the world-renowned Coogee Beach is only 2km away.

Located close to the world-renowned horseracing venue, Royal Randwick Racecourse, Newmarket is also at the heart of Randwick’s education and health precincts, with excellent schools and universities, including the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and Sydney Institute of TAFE.

Randwick’s urban green spaces are legendary.  Centennial Parklands’ three beautiful and historically significant parks cover 360 hectares, complete with waterways, cycle paths, horse trails and playing fields.  It’s one of Sydney’s most family-friendly spaces and the ideal complement to Cambridge’s elegant apartment lifestyle.

Newmarket is about to release its Cambridgebuilding (the second release of Fig Tree) this March with construction expected to be completed in mid-2020 along with the neighbouring Newmarket Residences buildings.
